About The Position

The Residential HVAC Startup/Punch Technician is responsible for assisting with the final setup, testing, and completion of newly installed HVAC systems in residential homes. This role focuses on verifying proper installation, performing system startups, addressing punch list items, and ensuring systems operate safely and efficiently before homeowner turnover. The technician works closely with installation teams, supervisors, and quality control personnel to ensure systems meet company standards and applicable codes.

Requirements

  • EPA Refrigerant Certification (Type I or Universal preferred).
  • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) registration as an HVAC technician or apprentice.
  • Basic knowledge of residential HVAC systems and components.
  • Basic knowledge and safe use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to read basic installation instructions and follow procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in attics, crawl spaces, and varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in construction or HVAC installation.
  • Basic understanding of airflow, duct systems, and thermostat operation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform startup procedures on newly installed residential HVAC systems.
  • Verify system operation including airflow, temperature split, and basic performance checks.
  • Complete punch list items related to HVAC installations such as sealing ducts, adjusting registers, tightening electrical connections, and correcting minor installation issues.
  • Assist with system testing including thermostat operation, safety controls, and equipment startup sequences.
  • Document work performed and report any installation issues that require correction.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Follow company safety guidelines and local/state regulations.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, installers, and other trades on job sites.
