About The Position

The Residential Education Instructor at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) is responsible for teaching and curriculum development for junior residential education classes, as well as managing a residence hall community. This role involves facilitating student transitions, co-teaching college and career planning, and teaching elective courses that provide essential life skills. The instructor will also engage in community building, emergency response, and support for students, while fostering a collaborative environment across departments.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent professional training and experience.
  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills.
  • Teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with no serious driving-related convictions.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student transitions to NCSSM through the Cornerstone Course.
  • Co-teach college and career planning with the Counseling Department.
  • Teach elective courses such as Financial Planning, Leadership, Public Speaking, and Exploring Multicultural America.
  • Develop, evaluate, and revise curricula based on research and assessments.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods and technology in the classroom.
  • Assess student work and maintain accurate reports and grades.
  • Engage in communication with students, parents, and the student support team.
  • Manage and supervise a residence hall community, promoting wellness and community events.
  • Act as a front-line responder for student emergencies and incidents.
  • Conduct room tours and present at various school events.
  • Participate in institutional committee assignments and campus life activities.
