About The Position

Our DSPs provide direct support, assistance and companionship to individuals with developmental disabilities, seniors, or individuals in need of patient care in our residential homes. They assist with all daily activities and encourage attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion. Pay Rate: $22-$26/hr based on relevant experience Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week- Weekend shifts, Overnights, Evening shifts, Morning shifts Our Mission at Mountain Valley Developmental Services is to encourage and support individuals with developmental disabilities, enhance their ability to live, learn, and work in an independent and inclusive manner, and to educate the community about their contributions and capabilities. MVDS supports adults and children in Eagle, Garfield, Lake and Pitkin counties with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Our work provides life span services for these individuals, their parents and family members, guardians, colleagues at work, neighbors, and friends to promote independence, quality of life, and rights protection. We take pride in our person-centered care and deep commitment to supporting persons with developmental disabilities. Requirements

  • The ability to provide compassionate and person-centered care to individuals with diverse needs
  • A High School GED or Diploma
  • Ability to attend and pass a QMAP (Qualified Medication Administration Person) class and test as offered by MVDS
  • A valid Colorado Drivers License and reliable transportation
  • A Criminal and Motor Vehicle record which meets company standards
  • A TB test within the first week of employment (paid for by us)
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviors with patience and empathy
  • Ability to work a flexible range of shift times if needed

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in childcare, working with people with developmental disabilities, senior care, patient care, or direct support
  • Knowledge of first aid, medications, and basic medical procedures
  • CNA certification or intertest in becoming CNA certified

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and support individuals in achieving their personal goals and promoting independence.
  • Treat clients with respect and dignity.
  • Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation depending on individual needs.
  • Engage in meaningful activities and outings with individuals to enhance their quality of life
  • Administer medication and monitor health conditions as required
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for individuals under your care
  • Document and report any changes in behavior or health status
  • Assist clients to maintain a safe and clean living environment. Utilize program’s chore chart for a list of duties.
  • Provide safe transportation of persons receiving services, drive defensively and follow all traffic laws at all times.
  • Follow all safety guidelines including, but not limited to healthy lifting, transferring, and back care at all times.
  • Identify and solve potential safety hazards, repair or maintenance needs or immediately report them to Facilities Manager and Residential Manager.
  • In case of emergency, follow the emergency plan identified for the facility; notify appropriate authorities and Mountain Valley staff as soon as possible.
  • Conduct, document and participate in emergency drills as directed by the Residential Manager and/or Safety Coordinator;
  • Ensure the vehicles are well-maintained and cared for.
  • Participate in the development of the Individualized Plan (IP) for each resident by participating in the biannual assessment and development of new goals.
  • Provide services and implement goals in accordance with the Individualized Plan for each individual supported.
  • Communicate with the Interdisciplinary Team as needs change.
  • Demonstrate competence and good decision making in traumatic situations including medical emergencies, physical aggression, or other maladaptive behavior.
  • Assist individual residents with physical and personal care as identified in the Individualized Plan (IP).
  • Assist non-ambulatory residents with physical transfer as necessary, including, but not limited to, pushing wheelchairs, assisting someone in standing from a seated or laying position and entering and exiting vehicles.
  • Review necessary documentation at start of shift and enter necessary documentation at by the end of shift per MVDS policies and procedures.
  • Read emails and respond accordingly in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with the Program Manager and/or the Medical Office about observed medical, physical and emotional resident needs in a timely manner.
  • Accurately administer medications to residents, document administration and report/document all medication administration errors, as directed by the Medical Office and medication administration policies.
  • Follow all health protocols and care plans.
  • Ensure all medications ordered are available and not expired. Order refills as needed.
  • Plan a healthy and varied menu with individual interests in mind, complete grocery shopping as needed.
  • Plan community outings based on individual preferences and requests, schedule outings regularly.
  • Shop as needed for household supplies, support individuals in personal needs shopping as directed.
  • Coach and support newly hired staff
  • Respond to all requests for information or communication in a timely manner.
  • Follow all policies within the MVDS Employee Handbook.
  • Report all on-the-job injuries to immediate supervisor and Director of Human Resources within 24 hours of the occurrence and provide a detailed account of the events leading to the injury.
  • Report for work on-time and as scheduled.
  • Enter daily, accurate timekeeping records in timekeeping database.
  • Attend all regular staff meetings and other meetings as requested by supervisory or administrative staff members.
  • Work schedule as assigned.
  • Have all over-time hours pre-approved or demonstrate they were due to an emergency.
  • Get all time-off requests pre-approved.
  • Do not take unpaid time off without prior approval.
  • Work at any MVDS facility and be responsible for own transportation to work.
  • Complete all mandatory new hire requirements and training as identified by the State of Colorado and Mountain Valley’s training requirements within 90 days of hire and maintain courses and certifications as required.
  • Maintain skills with computers, take advantage of new technology, learn new tools quickly, use technology to enhance job performance and increase productivity. Maintain current understanding of technical processes/equipment.
  • Adhere to MVDS policies and procedures outlined in the policy manual, Employee Handbook, and other employee policies.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned to ensure effective functioning of Mountain Valley’s programming.
