About The Position

The City of Ames is seeking two Residential Data Collectors to join the City Assessor's Office for a temporary position lasting one year. The role involves collecting data on residential properties, performing onsite inspections, and ensuring accurate property assessments under the supervision of the City Assessor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of experience in an assessor's office or similar field preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Skill in accuracy and detail when completing paperwork and data entry.
• Ability to drive a motorized vehicle to various locations for property measurement.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with real estate appraisal principles and practices.
• Familiarity with laws and ordinances pertaining to real estate assessment.

Responsibilities

• Perform onsite inspection of existing structures.
• Document and/or verify information regarding physical characteristics of residential properties.
• Meet with property owners to review and/or correct property characteristics.
• Analyze inspection data and make appropriate changes to existing records and assessments.
• Read and interpret blueprints and plats.
• Answer information requests from property owners regarding the assessment process.
• Perform all work duties in accordance with City policies and safety practices.
