About Crotched Mountain School Crotched Mountain School (CMS) serves students aged 5–21 with autism and complex developmental challenges who thrive in a therapeutic, individualized environment. Located on a stunning campus in Greenfield, NH, CMS offers academic, recreational, and residential programming that fosters growth, independence, and joy for every student. About the Role As a Residential Counselor , you’ll help students build essential life skills and experience success—sometimes for the first time. You’ll be a steady, compassionate presence who helps create a safe, structured home environment where students can learn, connect, and grow.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus one of the following:
  • Associate degree (minimum 12 credits in Human Services, Education, Psychology, or related field)
  • Two years of full-time (3,000 hours) experience working directly with children
  • Parent of a child age 7 or older
  • Or a combination of related education and experience
  • Comfortable supporting individuals with significant needs and behaviors.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and remain active throughout the day.

Responsibilities

  • Support students’ daily routines, personal care, and independent living skills.
  • Help implement individualized education and life plans (IEPs and ILPs).
  • Encourage positive behavior through consistency, empathy, and teamwork.
  • Facilitate engaging, therapeutic activities tailored to each student’s abilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and participate in team meetings and training.
  • Be a trusted advocate for students’ rights, dignity, and personal growth.
