About The Position

The Vermont Department of Mental Health is seeking a dedicated Residential Counselor Supervisor to provide clinical oversight and leadership at our Secure Residential Facility. This role is vital in ensuring high-quality mental health care and direct support for residents living with serious mental illness. This position will supervise all Residential Counselors, including the completion of performance evaluations and addressing HR-related matters. This role will provide training and professional guidance to direct care Residential Counselors through orientation, individual supervision, and will model therapeutic supports. Review, support, and approve clinical documentation completed by Residential Counselors. Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Clinical Services to oversee clinical practices of the facility. Participate as a member of the RVTR Leadership Team and multidisciplinary care team. Deliver therapeutic supports directly to residents (individual, group, and milieu). Promote a culture of open communication, accountability, and collaboration. Provide crisis intervention, safety assessments, and support community integration efforts. Requirements

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills in clinical settings
  • Expertise in therapeutic approaches, trauma-informed care, and positive behavioral supports
  • Deep understanding of mental illnesses, treatment procedures, and interdisciplinary systems
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and person-centered care
  • Excellent clinical documentation, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to foster strength-based relationships and results-oriented service delivery
  • Master’s in psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or Social Work
  • Three (3) years or more of experience in the mental health field
  • Must be Licensed eligible for Licensure in Psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counseling or Social Work in the State of Vermont with current licensure preferred
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing clinical supervision
  • Experience with adults with serious mental illness
  • Supervising experience preferred but not required
  • Licensure in psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or Social Work preferred but not required.
