The Residential Construction Discipline at Delta College is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member committed to equity, retention, and completion for student success. The instructor will be responsible for effective teaching in the face-to-face, blended, and online classroom. Potential candidates will have the ability to teach online as well as face-to-face and blended/hybrid courses during the evening, at multiple locations (Downtown Centers, Dual Enrollment Partners), and nontraditional times as needed. In addition, we seek candidates whose pedagogy, research, and continuous professional development have prepared them to engage with the college's commitment to belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion (BEDI).

Responsibilities

  • Provide knowledge in the field of expertise and promote student-centered learning activities.
  • Utilize various teaching strategies, learning styles, and delivery methods including new technology systems.
  • Teach, lecture, and instruct laboratory coursework in various Architecture and Construction related curriculum.
  • Demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Prepare, teach, and evaluate assigned instructional courses (classroom and lab).
  • Update course syllabi to reflect changes.
  • Advise students regarding school policies and satisfactory performance.
  • Provide curriculum insight and guidance regarding continuous improvement initiatives for the program.
  • Integrate international and intercultural experiences in the college, community, and curriculum.
  • Serve as liaison regarding program content and delivery between program faculty and administration.
  • Participate in program advisory committee meetings as required.
  • Develop supplemental teaching materials to augment courses.
  • Create, maintain, and update course information as well as grades.
  • Implement new teaching strategies as appropriate.
  • Evaluate textbooks for relevancy, quality, and currency.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' attendance and performance.
  • Adhere to assigned teaching load/hours.
  • Integrate new technology in instructional delivery methods.
  • Adhere to/enforce policies and procedures related to academic area.
  • Maintain a hazard-free environment and practice safety in lab(s) or classroom.
  • Keep students advised of their progress in class and refer students to the Academic Support center for assistance.
  • Serve the community through outreach activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction and/or Architecture or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Student-centered approach to education.
  • Commitment to teaching in a comprehensive community college.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent, relevant professional work experience in construction and architecture.
  • Certifications and/or licensure in Construction.
  • Certifications and/or licensure in Architecture.
  • Experience using AutoCAD suite in both 2D and 3D applications.
  • Computer troubleshooting skills, knowledge of print reading, and technical math required.
  • Michigan Builder's Licensure.
  • Industry Experience.
  • Teaching Experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Student Competition Experience (e.g., SkillsUSA).
  • Leadership roles.
  • Industry partnership experience (Habitat for Humanity).
  • Two years teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

Benefits

  • Starting Salary $57,815 - $74,300: Commensurate with Education, Qualifications and Experience.
