Residential Clinical Director
About The Position
The Barry Robinson Center is a premier behavioral health system dedicated to improving the lives of children since 1933, with a special focus on serving military-connected youth. Located on a beautiful campus in Norfolk, Virginia. Home to one of the largest military communities in the world, we provide residential treatment, outpatient services, and foster care to children ages 11–17 whose families serve our nation. The Clinical Director is a key member of the interdisciplinary treatment team working together to ensure high-quality clinical care, strong supervision, and consistent treatment practices across residential programs. This role provides direct clinical oversight, consultation and supervision for a 24-beds in a 72 residential treatment program working exclusively with military connected youth and their families, including supervision of approximately four (4) clinical therapists. The Clinical Director focuses on clinical excellence at the program level; supporting staff development, ensuring treatment fidelity, and maintaining compliance with clinical, regulatory, and accreditation standards—while partnering closely with peers and executive leadership. Qualities for Success We met with our residents to learn what characteristics and qualities they value most in staff. They shared that the most important quality is empathy. Residents also emphasized the importance of staff who remain level-headed and calm under pressure, as this helps them feel safe. The third quality they identified was professionalism and trustworthiness, which builds a strong foundation of respect and reliability. Finally, residents shared that having staff who are consistent and dedicated to supporting them makes a meaningful difference in their experience. Requirements
- Genuine passion for supporting youth and their families, especially those from military-connected communities.
- Demonstrated ability to live out the organization’s three core team values: Be Kind, Be Competent, and Be Fun.
- PhD, EDD, Master’s degree in; Social Work, Professional Counseling, or related clinical field
- Current licensure, as a Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Virginia, or equivalent license with Virginia reciprocity
- Minimum of 5 years of experience providing mental health services to children, adolescents, and families
- Advanced skills in clinical diagnostics, assessments, formulations, and treatment planning
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in clinical settings
- Must be eligible for malpractice insurance.
