About The Position

This role is to assist in the effort to get the energy storage system built. It combines the responsibilities of a residential electrician, battery installer and solar installer. A background in electrical systems and/or construction is a plus. Experience installing PV solar ensures familiarity with many products and this familiarity may be called on to assist with the overall project completion. The best battery installers demonstrate the essential qualities of a construction manager, including excellent communication skills, proactive planning, and the ability to solve problems efficiently. The ability to ready designs and electrical schematics will be crucial, but you’ll need to think on your feet and make decisions about wire size, conduit size, equipment clearances and the National Electric Code (NEC). This battery installer role takes it’s lead from the Battery and Solar Electrician. The two work together to verify design compliance, confirm or choose the most viable locations for all equipment, get the equipment into place and installed, pipe and/or wire between all devices, commission and get all equipment operating as intended, photograph, label, and otherwise get the system ready to pass inspection and for a life time of operation. Prepping, ordering, counting, installing and turning over new materials daily and weekly are key parts of this position, along with consistent vehicle and tool maintenance that keep the battery installation team running smoothly.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of energy storage systems and previous experience installing energy storage systems.
  • Commitment to safety, above all. Extensive knowledge and experience with electrical safety is required.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and NEC code requirements
  • Ability to design equipment layouts, relocate loads out of a meter main panel, add additional load centers, and find creative conduit run solutions
  • Ability to commission PV systems and troubleshoot problems
  • Proven experience identifying, and using power tools and hardware
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers at all times
  • Excellent PV technical skills, residential electrical skills, modest general construction skills and basic carpentry skills are required
  • Strong work ethic. Must possess a positive attitude, be solution oriented and be committed to precise, high-quality work.
  • Commitment to consistent improvement and process efficiency
  • Ability to document work with photos on phone, then upload and organize photos
  • Basic computer skills. Ability to effectively use Google Drive, Salesforce, email, calendar.
  • Valid CA driver license with acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Experience installing Tesla Powerwalls, Franklin WH, or Anker batteries is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure project build meets or exceeds the customers’ expectations
  • Supports team members to ensure both quality control and project compliance to plans and specifications
  • Perform daily organizing and turnover of team vehicle
  • Contributes to and adheres to Safety Plan
  • Plan and execute the transport, handling, and installation of all components of designed energy storage system (batteries, backup interface, generation and backup load sub-panels, etc.), PV solar inverters, disconnects, conduit and wire
  • Work with battery lead to coordinate, schedule, and execute as-needed power shutdowns with customers
  • Review BOMs, generate materials requests, and verify correct materials are available in time to maintain work flow
  • Maintain plans, material specifications, as-builts and be knowledgeable in all aspects of each assigned project. Redline and return plan set at the end of each day.
  • Ensures project completion, on time, with minimal punch list
  • Responsible for onsite compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain a rapport with all the team members, demonstrating strong work ethic and good judgment
  • Optimize the profitability of the company through planning, crew dynamic, and build-efficiency without ever jeopardizing safety and quality of work
  • Perform other duties as assigned
