About The Position

Housing Solutions of New York (HSNY) is seeking a dedicated Residential Aide to support the safety and well-being of residents in a shelter environment in Manhattan. The role involves performing inspections, documenting incidents, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations while providing a welcoming atmosphere for clients and visitors. The Residential Aide will play a crucial role in maintaining the facility's security and assisting with the overall operations of the shelter.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 to 2 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a social services agency.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • CPR Certification and First Aid Certification required.
  • Computer literacy, including skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Supervising experience is a plus.
  • Guard Card certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in direct client/participant services preferred.
  • Familiarity with social services programs and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hourly inspections of the facility and conduct routine and random inspections of bed areas and lockers.
  • Ensure the safety of all residents and staff.
  • Orient new intakes and assist with room assignments.
  • Document all residents, staff, and visitors entering and exiting the building; complete census forms and report incidents.
  • Assist in the turnover of shelter beds and ensure readiness for new clients.
  • Inform appropriate program staff of any health and safety issues affecting clients or staff.
  • Record daily census reports and create shift reports at the end of each shift.
  • File all paperwork related to shift coverage and provide a professional greeting to visitors and callers.
  • Generate and submit incident reports with detailed information and names of first responders.
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
  • Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property and monitoring surveillance equipment.
  • Report any security breaches, incidents, and alarming behavior.
  • Ensure the lobby and front of the building is cleared and prevent loitering.
  • Assist with fire drills/emergency evacuations and generate required documentation.
  • Maintain the security of the facility and distribute mail to staff and clients.
  • Enforce curfew regulations as directed and implement programmatic needs as outlined by the Director.
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the RA Manager or Program Director.
