About The Position

The Goddard Riverside Community Center and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City. We work every day for a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives for themselves and their families. The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational. Goddard Riverside is excited to announce the agency is diving back into settlement roots and becoming a resource to Asylum Seekers in New York City! Goddard’s newest endeavor will be a Sanctuary Site for Asylum Seeking families. This site will be a place where families can feel safe, receive resources and support, while acclimating and becoming part of the community. The position involves assisting families in daily living skills as they resettle in NYC, ensuring clients are acclimated to their living situation, and monitoring the residence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Experience in shelter or residential setting.
  • Bilingual in English, Spanish, French, or Creole (written and spoken) required.
  • Food Protection Certificate will be required during first few weeks of hire.
  • Driver’s License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete regular and routine resident and facility checks to ensure that residents are not at risk and that facility management is aware of potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, fire, and safety codes, ensure timely handling of all violations, prevent violations whenever possible.
  • Assist in the monitoring and development of resident’s daily independent living skills.
  • Establish and cultivate professional and positive relationships with families.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice models including person centered planning, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, culturally aware, and strengths-based approaches.
  • Escort clients via public transportation to appointments as needed.
  • Co-Facilitate and participate in social emotional driven learning groups and activities for families.
  • Perform and confirm all daily room and bed inspections are taking place.
  • Manage operations desk: ensure documentation of client whereabouts, answer phones when necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with building staff to assist tenants and ensure tenant safety.
  • Document incidents onsite in CARES and send to Goddard Incident Report Committee.
  • Report any concerns on quality service deliverables to management in a timely manner.
  • Monitor common areas to ensure proper usage.
  • Conduct intakes during evenings, overnights, and weekends as needed.
  • Document in CARES intake system and ensure all clients are admitted in a timely fashion.
  • Provide daily food service and ensure food delivery is stored immediately.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of the building and monitor common areas.
  • Participate in staff meetings where resident issues, operations, policies, procedures, and program outcomes are discussed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
