About The Position

The Residential Advisor is responsible for providing proper guidance to students, promoting positive group living relations and achievement in the program, in compliance with government and management directives. MTC operates the Inland Empire Job Corps Center in San Bernardino, CA, providing quality services to local youth. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One-year related experience required.
  • Computer proficiency is also required.
  • Valid driver's license in state of employment with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance for students to achieve a positive attitude and proper behavior in dormitory living situation and to accomplish their goals and objectives.
  • Determine, recommend and arrange student visits to career counselor; review problems related to assigned students with career counselors.
  • Direct dorm activities as designated.
  • Patrol and monitor dormitories and center as required to ensure safety and proper behavior of students; resolve potential or occurring problems; document bed checks and accountability.
  • Help plan and supervise recreational activities for students on and off center.
  • Transport students to and from recreational functions, clothing trips, and airport or bus stations as required.
  • Prepare the morning report, pass list and other administrative correspondence relating to students.
  • Direct students and assist in the cleanup and maintenance of the dormitory.
  • As assigned, perform duties as mail clerk; sort, distribute and receive mail to and from all center areas.
  • Recommend or requisition supplies to provide needs for dorm living and safety of students.
  • Maintain dormitory and individual student files. Update CIS information as required.
  • Conduct group sessions in accordance with the schedule; participate in and conduct career preparation activities, social skills and career success training, and after hours tutoring and learning activities.
  • Prepare student evaluations and participate in evaluation panels.
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • Work overtime when directed to do so.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
