About The Position

This is a part time position working approximately 29 hours a week in a domestic violence shelter. Successful completion of Domestic Violence Core Competency training within 90 days of employment and attends at least 16 hours of continuing education in domestic violence to maintain State of Florida Core Competency Certification is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D. AND
One year experience performing social service work preferred OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Successful completion of Domestic Violence Core Competency training within 90 days of employment.
Valid State driver’s license may be required.
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper action.
Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Responsibilities

Orients new clients to the program, helps survivors with crisis counseling and safety planning, and prepares case records to facilitate case management; records daily services.
Ensures house guidelines are understood and followed; records incidents and notifies supervisor of any special circumstances or unusual problems; ensures security of facility and clients.
Assists domestic violence hotline callers and provides telephone counseling, safety planning, and information and referral services.
Assists domestic violence hotline callers and provides telephone counseling, safety planning, and information and referral services.
Performs housekeeping duties as needed to ensure cleanliness of the shelter.
