About The Position

The Resident Supervisor for the Summer Student Program at The Jackson Laboratory is responsible for managing the residential life program, which includes mentoring undergraduate students, overseeing day-to-day logistics, and organizing recreational activities. This role involves fostering community engagement, ensuring student safety, and facilitating compliance with JAX policies, all while working closely with the Program Director and Resident Assistants.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability and strong desire to work in a residential education and research environment.
• Outstanding mentor/student communication, leadership, and organization skills.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, patient, and disciplined problem solver.
• Ability and interest to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
• 4+ years of successful work experience in a student-oriented field such as teaching, mentoring, or counseling.
• Valid US driver's license and ability to transport groups of students.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the SSP residential program, including student orientation and regular group meetings.
• Ensure safety and information sharing through effective communication systems and policies.
• Facilitate routine and emergency medical care for students.
• Create and manage daily supervision and transportation schedules.
• Assist students in compliance with residential policies and procedures.
• Develop and participate in an on-call schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
• Maintain rapport and support for individual student needs through informal communication.
• Provide problem-solving assistance and guidance to students.
• Oversee recreational components of the residential life program, including organizing an overnight trip.
