About The Position

As a Region 1 Resident Engineer, you will deliver some of the largest construction projects in the state. This position manages a team of engineers, technicians, surveyors, and clerical personnel who assist in the administration of ODOT construction and consultant services contracts. You will be involved in the day-to-day efforts to monitor progress, evaluate changes, negotiate with contractors and solve problems to allow the projects to reach successful completion. The first project the successful candidate will lead is the I205 Abernethy Bridge Improvements Project. This $800M project is making significant seismic and safety improvements on the I205 bridge over the Willamette River between West Linn and Oregon City. You will join this project mid-construction, surrounded by an established construction team (including members from ODOT, design consultants, and construction contractors) focused on delivery of this project.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Civil Engineering (CE) license in the State of Oregon, OR the ability to obtain license within six months of hire
  • Three years of licensed experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of the position
  • If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain a temporary permit to practice engineering within six months from date of hire
  • Valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design, pre-bid and pre-construction meetings
  • Meet with contractor and consultants to coordinate work
  • Maintain flow of verbal and written communication with state offices, contractors, consultants and other agencies
  • Manage vendor performance and compliance
  • Oversee financial administrative functions
  • Monitor work in progress
  • Manage a crew of 13 – 15 construction staff
  • Provide performance appraisals and training development
  • Participate on statewide committees for the Project Delivery Leadership Team
  • Develop outsourcing contracts for complex highway projects
