About The Position

The Resident Engineer will oversee two NYC Parks Department projects throughout the city, focusing on the reconstruction of city sidewalks and tree health. This role involves visiting multiple sites daily, managing contractors both on the streets and in parks, and communicating effectively with clients. The Resident Engineer will be responsible for reviewing contract line items and overseeing tasks such as saw cutting, excavation, planting, concrete restoration, and ensuring punch list items are guaranteed.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or related plant science field; or construction project management and/or civil engineering with 2 years of related work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience.
  • Master's degree with 6 months of experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in performing daily field reporting and construction oversight tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of plant species.
  • Experience working with landscapers for several years or summers.

Responsibilities

  • Receive daily site assignments from the Project Manager via email.
  • Meet with the Superintendent at the job site by 7 AM.
  • Observe and manage contractors on site.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed, including the use of PPE.
  • Collaborate with Parks Department and contractors.
  • Utilize the spec book and understand its contents.
  • Record and track measurements for pay items based on trees planted and excavation.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted at land level, with no climbing or working on active roadways.
