About The Position

The Resident Engineer plays a critical role in overseeing and managing engineering projects on-site to ensure successful completion within scope, time, and budget. This position serves as the primary technical liaison between the project owner, contractors, and design teams, ensuring that all engineering standards and specifications are met. The Resident Engineer is responsible for monitoring construction activities, resolving technical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality regulations. They provide expert guidance and make informed decisions to address challenges that arise during project execution. Ultimately, the Resident Engineer ensures that the project delivers the intended outcomes while maintaining high standards of engineering excellence and client satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification recognized in the United States.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction engineering or project management, preferably in infrastructure or commercial building projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • The Resident Engineer utilizes technical engineering skills daily to interpret complex design documents and ensure construction activities align with project specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for coordinating between diverse project teams and resolving conflicts effectively.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills enable the engineer to identify potential issues early and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Proficiency with project management and scheduling software supports efficient tracking of progress and resource allocation.
  • Additionally, leadership and decision-making skills are critical for managing on-site teams and maintaining safety and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a Resident Engineer on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with project management software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar tools.
  • Certification in Construction Safety (e.g., OSHA 30-hour) or Quality Management (e.g., Six Sigma).
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Project Management.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and sustainable construction practices.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily construction activities to ensure adherence to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents to provide technical guidance to contractors and subcontractors.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor quality control, safety compliance, and progress reporting.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders including owners, architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies to resolve technical issues and facilitate communication.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation including daily reports, change orders, and progress updates to support project management and decision-making.
