About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Resident Engineer for our Connecticut office, with an interest in highway bridge and rail engineering construction. Be involved in projects with our Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. Managing the construction management team. Responsible for record keeping, correspondence, compiling and delivering of required reports. Chair various project meetings, record and distribute meeting minutes. Monitoring contractor performance, scheduling, effectiveness, and quality control. Issue Non-compliance notices and follow through to resolution. Review and approve daily inspection reports and payment quantities in accordance with project standard specifications and requirements. Prepare change orders for overruns, changed conditions and additional work. Log and coordinate with the designer to respond to contractors' submittals, RFI's and shop drawings. Work to create a safety culture. Experience in permit compliance and coordination with adjacent projects. Work with client to inform the public about upcoming work and potential impacts. Work with the contractor to minimize disruptions to the public. Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • 15+ years' experience in highway, bridge, rail, or other transportation related construction management.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering - preferably Civil engineering.
  • Connecticut Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain quickly through reciprocity. (CCM certification may be accepted.)
  • Ability to supervise staff - inspection, safety, quality, project controls.
  • Ability to manage construction contractors and manage project schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to review/approve shop drawings, contractor schedules, permit and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to work schedules (nights/weekends) conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Project management software systems.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

  • Specific experience with CTDOT construction projects that include highways, bridges, rail, and other transportation related type projects.
  • Specific experience managing large construction projects ($100M+)
  • OSHA 30 certification
