About The Position

H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm seeks a Resident Engineer in our Melville, NY office to oversee and direct the resident engineering construction inspection services teams assigned to various infrastructure projects. In this position you will work closely with the client's management team and the construction contractor to deliver successful projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college required.
  • Valid NYS P.E. License
  • Minimum 7-10 years experience in construction inspection and/or management of various infrastructure projects including; Water/wastewater treatment plants, water distribution, wastewater collection, storm drains and road construction projects.
  • Must have strong communication skills to lead and direct project initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to tactfully shift priorities and solve problems at multiple levels

Responsibilities

  • Manages contracts and maintain quality assurance requirements and approaches; manage field inspection and monitoring code compliance issues.
  • Leads and/or attends project site coordination meetings.
  • Provides quality assurance, testing procedures, inspection protocols, construction techniques, and timely completion of daily inspection activities.
  • Reviews submittals, RFI’s, Change Orders and other construction documents and recommends approval.
  • Schedule testing and inspection of materials used on projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications and ordinances on behalf of clients/owners.
  • Reviews plans for assigned projects, observes and inspects construction work performed by others and attends pre-construction conferences, progress meetings and safety meetings.
  • Interprets drawings and specifications.
  • Monitors contract cost and schedule; prepares and approves payment requisitions.
  • Performs daily inspections, daily reports, punch list inspections.
  • Utilizes basic knowledge of cost trends, change management, claims, and other construction-related matters to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Mentors and/or supervises junior staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
