Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Resident Engineer/Assistant Project Manager , with 10 or more years of experience, to join our construction management team working on construction projects located within the NYC Metropolitan Area. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. As a Resident Engineer/Assistant Project Manager, you will utilize your experience and technical knowledge of construction management, municipal infrastructure, building construction, building systems including MEP, site development, and general civil/structural knowledge to successfully oversee and manage Arcadis’ on-site team for its delivery of construction management services for the construction of a new boiler building at a NYCHA development located in Brooklyn, NY. You will work under the supervision of the Project Manager/Construction Manager or Project Executive. Role accountabilities: Management: Oversee day-to-day construction management services, including resident engineering and inspection, while managing contractor performance, progress, quality, schedule, and safety. Lead and mentor inspection, superintendent, and field office staff; ensure accurate reporting and documentation in line with client requirements. Manage sub-consultants, review invoices for accuracy, and oversee administrative functions such as records, correspondence, meetings, reports, and deliverable tracking. Change orders will also be part of this role and you will be expected to handle preparing, estimating and negotiating them. Contractor Oversight: In this role you will support contractor planning and execution to identify and resolve design and construction issues early; this will include review and analysis of schedules, monthly updates, claims, time impact analyses, and extension requests. You will be expected to provide timely comments and recommendations. A key responsibility will be to monitor contractor performance, responsiveness, and effectiveness, exerting influence to maintain project goals for cost, schedule, and quality; this includes managing the contractor payment process and recommend adjustments as needed to support overall project performance. Liaison: You will serve as a key liaison among design teams, program management, NYCHA departments, tenant groups, and other stakeholders to coordinate construction activities and resolve project issues; this includes providing technical reviews of plans, specifications, RFIs, shop drawings, and project changes to ensure constructability and practicality. Arcadis prioritizes site safety and you will be responsible for overseeing this aspect through maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT), permit compliance, and coordination with participating agencies. Additional duties as assigned and required

Requirements

  • 10 years or more of experience with at least 5 years of Resident Engineer/Assistant Project Manager experience specifically for NYC Metro Public agencies.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction or a related field of study.
  • Able to use basic functions of construction software document management applications such as eBuilder and the MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously while having a commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral and be able to manage personnel and remain responsive to client requirements.
  • Effective research, data gathering and analysis skills.
  • Advanced communication skills, including the ability to liaise with peers, clients, and senior colleagues and build and maintain relationships.
  • Commercial awareness and organizational understanding.
  • A logical approach and ability to think through complex issues to coordinate multi-faceted aspects of projects.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently.
