TERM: This agreement is for the 2026-2027 academic year, from July 26, 2026, to July 24, 2027, or upon graduation or withdrawal from classes. RD agreements are not automatically renewed annually. Staff members seeking to return must submit an intent to return form prior to being offered a new agreement. Reappointment is contingent upon the staff member’s continued ability to meet all qualifications, successful completion of tasks, satisfactory performance evaluations by their supervisor, and demonstrated growth in their position. Reappointment is not guaranteed. Participate in DFSL staff activities (e.g. Fall and Spring training; RD, DFSL, and House Director staff meeting) and retreats as well as other Division of Student Affairs and University professional development opportunities throughout the year. Meet attendance expectations at community-wide events as well as those hosted by the local chapter. Demonstrate mature, responsible decision-making. Maintain an open line of communication with DFSL staff regarding events happening in the chapter facility including but not limited to weekly and emergency reporting (e.g. contacting the University of Maryland Police, Ambulance, Fire Department, etc.) Participate in a regular on-duty cycle with other Resident Directors, which involves staying in fraternity/sorority facilities, regular duty walks and responding to all issues. Show flexibility and adaptability in the performance of duties in order to respond to changing needs and situations. TIME COMMITMENT: As a general guideline, RDs should anticipate an average of 10 hours per week of regularly scheduled responsibilities (e.g., time in the facility, staff meetings, duty, or additional responsibilities). Before opening and closing dates, RDs should expect to devote an increased amount of time in their house. Houses are open year-round, except during Winter break, when the University and chapter facilities close for one week (RDs will need to use time away for any time outside of Dec. 25 - Jan 1). Houses are open during the summer but in a variety of settings (regular chapter occupancy, summer conferences, restoration work, or storage).
