About The Position

Elderwood is actively seeking a Resident Care Aide - Personal Care Aide (PCA) to join their team. The company is looking for a highly motivated, compassionate, and qualified individual who can create a supportive and nurturing environment for Seniors and has a passion for caring for Residents. This role involves assisting with ensuring the health and well-being of residents by providing personal care support. The position is responsible for meeting the physical and emotional needs of residents under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, ensuring the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times.

Requirements

  • Eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Certification by an approved basic training program approved by the Department of Health and possess written evidence of such certification.
  • Maintain current annual skills testing approval.
  • Ability to assist residents with all aspects of Daily Living Activities including bathing, toileting, and transferring.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds; Occasional 2 person lift up to 120 pounds.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well with residents, families and staff members.
  • Ability to read and understand task assignments, ability to report verbally and provide written documentation as required.
  • Display of genuine concern for the elderly; a dependable, patient and compassionate attitude towards residents.
  • Respectful demeanor of residents rights and wishes.
  • Ability to cooperate and maintain respectful treatment with others.
  • Sense of responsibility, maturity, diplomacy and ability to work well with residents, families and other staff members.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks to a high degree of excellence and cleanliness.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Daily Living Activities as needed, including meal assistance, grooming, medication management, showering, dressing/undressing.
  • Move and walk quickly and steadily in an emergency situation.
  • Assist with wheelchair transport of resident(s).
  • Apply/utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Respond immediately to residents’ requests.
  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) according to their plan of care, individual needs, and care preferences, including bathing, dressing, eating, exercise, housekeeping, meal preparation, assisting with medical supplies/equipment, positioning, grooming, toileting, transferring, personal emergency response, routine skin care, and laundering of clothing.
  • Notify Supervisor of changes in residents’ conditions or needs, including receiving reports about resident status from the nurse, following the plan of care, and informing the nurse after providing personal care services and weighing residents.
  • Maintain facility standards for resident care by protecting resident rights, ensuring respectful and kind treatment, reporting equipment repair needs, unsafe conditions, or personal needs, completing at least twelve (12) hours of annual in-service programs, and demonstrating respect for personal possessions to maintain an orderly pleasant environment.
  • Assist with service in the dining room for all meals as needed, maintaining facility standards for service and customer focus techniques.
  • Inform the nurse responsible for the care of the resident and document duties performed as necessary before leaving for break or end of shift.
  • Attend facility meetings, staff meetings, and required or preferred in-services.
  • Generate and develop ideas which improve the quality of care for residents or increase position productivity and satisfaction.
  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
  • Utilize electronic timekeeping system as directed.
  • Arrive to work on time, regularly, and work as scheduled.
  • Recognize and follow the dress code of the facility, including wearing a name tag at all times.
  • Follow policy and procedure regarding all electronic devices, computers, tablets, etc.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, management staff or Administrator.
