About the position

The Resident Care Aide position involves providing direct care and person-centered services to individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital. The role includes assisting residents with daily living activities, implementing care plans, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. The aide will work closely with a professional team to support residents' health and well-being, while also maintaining documentation and accountability records.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and person-centered services to residents.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
• Supervise residents in therapeutic settings and during program delivery.
• Document care provided in residents' medical records and maintain accountability records.
• Implement emergency procedures in accordance with hospital policies.
• Participate in active treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation programs.
• Monitor residents' safety and whereabouts during activities.
• Assist professional team members in formulating and revising individual care plans.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience as a Resident Care Aide is preferred, with specific experience levels required for different classifications (6, 7, or 8).
• Successful completion of the Department's Resident Care Aide training program for higher classifications.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in public health is a plus.
