The Resident Assistant (RA) fosters a strong sense of community among residents through communication, programming, and active engagement. RA's contribute to an environment that supports personal, social, cultural, intellectual, and artistic growth. RA's are expected to uphold high standards of moral and ethical conduct. Beyond monitoring behavior, they help residents achieve their academic and artistic potential and develop responsibility for the shared community. The typical RA term of appointment is one full academic year (consecutive Fall and Spring semesters), including pre-semester trainings. All RA's are required to be on campus and fully participate in all training and operational activities which commence prior to the opening of the residence halls for both fall and spring semesters. RAs are expected to remain in residence until 48 hours after halls close at Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Spring Break and May Commencement. All RAs are expected to leave the residence halls for break periods unless selected to serve as a Break or Summer RA. RAs are expected to support, participate and encourage student participation in College and Residential Life initiatives such as Orientation, Preview Days, Accepted Student Days, Hallowed Halls, Family Weekend, RA selection process, and Housing Selection/Lottery.
