About The Position

The Resident Assistant (RA) plays a vital role in fostering a supportive living environment within the university residence halls. This position involves serving as a resource, mentor, and leader for a designated group of students within the residential community. RAs are responsible for building relationships, promoting community engagement, and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.

Requirements

  • Must have and maintain both a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5
  • Must be a current, full-time Texas Wesleyan University student
  • Outstanding interpersonal and community building skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Effective team member participation and leadership.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts while being fair and consistent with students especially in discipline matters.
  • Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy (FERPA) regulations.
  • Ability to demonstrate a cooperative attitude while working with student population.
  • Possession of organizational skills.
  • Ability to discern student needs and respond in a caring manner.
  • Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations or emergencies.
  • Ability to encourage others and participate in the community.
  • Knowledge and ability to complete given tasks and assignments thoroughly, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to ask questions to help solve issues, problems, and or conflicts.
  • Ability to interpret and disseminate information and directives.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write standard correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to current and prospective students and University employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work with a rotating schedule consisting of weekends, late nights, and holidays.
  • Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Building Community: Foster a sense of community among residents through organized activities, events, and programming.
  • Mentorship and Support: Serve as a resource and mentor for residents, offering guidance, advice, and support in academic, personal, and social matters.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts and concerns within the residence hall, mediating disputes and facilitating open communication among residents.
  • Policy Enforcement: Enforce university policies and regulations within the residence hall, including those related to safety, conduct, and community standards.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies and crises within the residence hall, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Administrative Duties: Complete administrative tasks such as documenting incidents, maintaining records, and submitting reports as required.
  • On-Call Responsibilities: Participate in on-call rotations to provide after-hours support and assistance to residents as needed.
