About The Position

An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated park service professional to  fill the position of Assistant Park Manager at Highlands Hammock State Park.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of:  management principles, practices and techniques; Florida ecosystems and the resource management techniques including the use of prescribed fire to maintain and restore them; building maintenance and construction including issues related to ADA compliance; maintenance and operation of vehicles, heavy equipment and power tools; computers and related hardware and software; basis arithmetic.
  • Skilled in:  operating a range of vehicles; the use of power and hand tools; computers and various software programs.
  • Ability to:  supervise people; maintain an effective working relationships and foster a productive work environment; prepare and maintain schedules for staff; provide effective leadership and training for career service, OPS, volunteer and AmeriCorps staff; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; complete reports and maintain records; conduct trainings, meetings, interpretative programs and orientations for diverse groups of participants; provide good public relations in a calm and professional manner; conduct inspections of park facilities, vehicles and equipment; participate in park maintenance and resource management activities; work rotating schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays; reside on park property in a 3 bedroom/1.5 bath house; maintain a valid driver’s license, successfully complete background and fingerprint check.

Responsibilities

  • ADMINISTRATION - Participates in employee training, supervision, discipline and maintains good employee relations.  Supervises the staff in fiscal and purchasing procedures and policies.  Ensures property procedures and policies are applied.  Coordinates work schedules and assignments.  Checks reports, fee collection and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
  • VISITOR SERVICES - Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, events and schedules for park unit.  Meets the public, interprets the resources, facilities and services, resolves problems and provides good public relations.  Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
  • RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Participates in the supervision of resource management programs applicable to park unit including ecological burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control and exotic removal.
  • MAINTENANCE - Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections.  Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to ensure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed.  Supervises and assists with the maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, wastewater systems, vehicles, equipment, etc.
  • PROTECTION - Ensures Park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor. Promotes safety throughout the park, ensures equipment and facilities are safe and provides guidance to staff on safety practices
  • OTHER – Performs other related duties as required
