About The Position

The Resident Assistant, Medication Aide provides essential care and services, including medication administration, general healthcare services, and assistance with daily living activities, all while adhering to location standards and procedures. This role involves assisting residents with self-administration of medications, and potentially administering medications after proper training. Key responsibilities include helping residents maintain proper appearance, assisting with bathing, toileting, dressing, transferring, repositioning, and walking. The aide is also responsible for accurately obtaining vital signs and reporting changes in health status. Adherence to OSHA and CDC guidelines for infection control, including aseptic cleaning techniques and bloodborne pathogen protocols, is crucial. The position also requires demonstrating safe chemical use, assisting with meal preparation and serving, managing linens and personal clothing, and cleaning resident rooms and common areas. Community involvement and working with volunteers are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED may be required based on working state.
  • Must meet the minimum state age requirement if working at a facility in which a lift is utilized to move residents.
  • Must complete and maintain assigned medication administration training program and competencies per state guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care and services such as medication administration, healthcare services, and activities of daily living assistance.
  • Assist residents with self-administration of medications and may administer medications with proper training.
  • Assist residents in maintaining proper and clean appearance.
  • Assist residents with bathing and maintaining cleanliness of all body areas.
  • Help residents with toileting needs.
  • Help residents with dressing and undressing and maintaining proper clothing.
  • Assist residents in transferring, repositioning and walking.
  • Obtain vital signs accurately and report changes in resident health status.
  • Adhere to OSHA and CDC guidelines to minimize infections by following aseptic cleaning techniques, including those that apply to blood borne pathogens.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper techniques for chemical use, and follow SDS guidelines for any exposure.
  • Assist with preparing and serving nutritious, appealing meals and snacks to residents following orders, standards and regulations.
  • Fold, hang and distribute clean linens and personal clothing.
  • Prepare and launder soiled linen / clothing.
  • Clean residents' rooms and bathrooms, work areas and other public areas.
  • Take part in community involvement in location and work with volunteers.
