About The Position

This position involves professional work as the Resident Advocacy Coordinator for Sunland Center residents. Advocates for residents concerning their quality of life, treatment and legal rights. Ensures issues surfaced are addressed promptly. Advocates to improve services to the residents and increase resident satisfaction with services

Requirements

  • Four years’ experience working directly with persons with disabilities.
  • A bachelor’s degree accredited college or university can substitute for years of experience.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to operational and management analysis activities.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred but not required, licensure as a Registered Nurse or at least a bachelor's degree in social work or a human service-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as intake office for all resident complaint that cannot be resolved through other channels within Sunland. Receives, reviews and logs all incoming complaints. Routes complaints to appropriate individuals for investigation and resolution. Tracks complaints until returned from appropriate staff. Conducts follow up on complaints not resolved to resident's satisfaction by meeting with service team or other individuals to attempt to negotiate mutually acceptable resolution. If resolution cannot be reached, establishes and chairs separate committee to review the complaint and make recommendations for resolution. Provides resident with committee decision and refers all complaints that cannot be resolved to Sunland Assistant Superintendent for review and further action if needed. Ensures that action is taken by the facility within specified timeframes and documents final disposition. This also includes receiving calls from residents with day-to-day questions and issues and addresses each on an individual basis.
  • Prepares monthly graphs outlining total complaints received, percentage of residents satisfied with resolution and average number of days to respond to complaints. Prepares other related reports for upper-level management review or other related issues as directed by supervisor. Serves on various committees as directed by supervisor.
  • Single point of accountability and contact for Disability Rights of Florida (DRF) issues and requests (i.e., follow-up on complaints, procurement of requested data, liaison with State Office legal for all DRF complaints, coordinating DRF visits, etc.).
  • Coordinates monthly In-House Resident Government meetings to ensure each ward has a monthly meeting and that the Unit-wide meeting twice a month. Records and distributes minutes of the Unit-wide meeting to Resident Ward Representatives, Management Team and other appropriate staff. Tracks issues raised to ensure action is taken to address each issue. Makes recommendations for corrective action or systematic changes needed.
  • Coordinates and facilitates activities that will increase welfare trust funds for residents at Sunland Center. This includes gathering items from community and other organizations for resident’s needs.
  • Communicates with State Office Ombudsman concerning resident issues to ensure leadership remains up to date of facilities activities/incidents.
  • Completes all required training. Maintain the approved Crisis Intervention and Prevention certification as required.
  • Maintains timesheet, ensuring accuracy and submit timely in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
