About The Position

Overview Friendship Public Charter School operates a network of college-preparatory public charter schools, serving students from preschool through 12th grade. Our mission is to provide a world-class education that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic achievement and success beyond high school. Academy Director Residency Program The Resident Academy Director role is part of Friendship’s Academy Director Residency, a minimum 18-month leadership development program designed to prepare high-potential educators for future school leadership roles within Friendship Public Charter School. During the residency, the Resident Academy Director will: Learn and internalize Friendship’s school leadership competencies , with a strong focus on instructional leadership, culture-building, and operational excellence Participate in external professional development through a nationally recognized school leadership preparation program. Receive executive-level feedback, coaching, and strategic planning opportunities from Friendship senior leaders Engage in a tailored, individualized development plan aligned to leadership readiness milestones Participate in a weekly cadence of meetings and coaching with an assigned Friendship Principal This residency provides a structured pathway to school leadership while offering hands-on experience, coaching, and continuous feedback. Requirements

  • Experience in a leadership role preferred; candidates may include those who: Do not yet have formal school leadership experience, or Have external leadership experience but no prior leadership experience at Friendship PCS
  • Strong commitment to providing a world-class education for students from historically underserved communities
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of teaching experience with a demonstrated record of significant academic gains (urban school setting strongly preferred)
  • Proven leadership in supporting instructional excellence through mentorship, coaching, professional development, or instructional planning
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education from an accredited university required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher required
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Strong experience analyzing and using student achievement data to drive instructional decisions
  • Passion for educational excellence, data-driven instruction, and accountability for results
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong classroom educators and teacher leaders who may not meet all qualifications above, but can demonstrate excellence in student outcomes, are encouraged to apply and may be considered for the Academy Director Residency Program.
  • Resident Academy Directors will be compensated at a rate $5,000 below the Friendship Academy Director salary scale to account for the cost of external professional learning.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Towards and Deliver on Results: Drive the mission and guiding principles of Friendship Public Charter School, fostering a positive achievement-focused culture among teachers, staff, and students
  • Lead and manage schoolwide assessment administration, coordinating all logistics, staffing, materials, accommodations, technology readiness, and compliance requirements to ensure secure, accurate, and timely implementation of all mandated assessments.
  • Create a Culture of Learning and Growing: Regularly observe classroom instruction and provide actionable feedback to improve teaching and learning
  • Guide staff toward high performance through goal setting, meaningful feedback, and constructive evaluations
  • Serve as the Principal Designee in the absence of the Principal, ensuring continuity of instructional, cultural, and operational practices across the school
  • Build a Thriving Team and Community: Engage parents, families, and community stakeholders in school and extracurricular activities to promote a strong community-centered approach to student development
  • Contribute to building an inclusive, high-performing team by supporting recruitment, onboarding, and development efforts; upholding shared norms and expectations; and collaborating with leadership to leverage individual strengths in service of student success
  • Skillfully Approaches Decisions: Analyze school-wide and grade-level performance data to identify trends, develop targeted instructional strategies, and adjust practices to improve outcomes
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal academic and operational regulations and requirements
