Description Of Job Duties 1. In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Residence Life, gain experience with the day-to-day management of Housing Operations. Such as: helping to facilitate check-in and check-out procedures at the beginning and end of each semester. Assist in maintaining accurate records of keys and occupancy. Perform inspections and document condition of rooms, including determination of damage charges to be assessed. 2. Co-supervise a team of student leaders. 3. Gain experience in creating a community living environment that fosters academic success, respect, support, and positive human interaction. Know residents individually and intentionally maximize those relationships to support student success and persistence. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion. 4. Serve as a resource for promoting and expanding diversity and inclusion within the residence halls. Provide support for programs, curricula, and training to build the multicultural competence of Resident Assistants (RAs) and residents, as they relate to the student experience. Work with colleagues in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Office of Multicultural Affairs on these initiatives as appropriate. 5. Respond to unexpected situations such as disputes between students, violations of College policies by students, medical and other emergencies. In case of medical or mental health concerns, ensure that established procedures are followed and that students, or others, receive appropriate care. The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Residence Life is required to live in the residence halls so that they can assist in responding to after-hours emergencies as appropriate. 6. A high level of student support is expected of the GA as a means of supporting the College’s persistence goals, including connecting students with appropriate campus resources and over wellbeing of students. 7. Monitor and assist resident assistants in approving, planning and facilitating programs. When appropriate, participate in and/or conduct programs. 8. Assist in facility management. Perform regular tours of residential facilities to account for furnishings, keys, equipment, safety hazards, maintenance, and cleaning needs. Ensure that buildings and their contents are properly maintained, primarily by reporting deficiencies to the AHO for Res/Rec, maintenance, and custodial personnel. 9. Attend Residence Life staff meetings and facilitate meetings involving ACAs. 10. Serve as the co-advisor to the Residence Hall Association. 11. Facilitate and monitor the Office of Residence Life Social Media accounts. Assist in creating content for all accounts. 12. Assist as needed upon the direction of the Director of Residence Life or Direct Supervisor. 13. Participation and involvement in all Residence Life related tasks including opening/closing, Resident Assistant training, Resident Assistant hiring and recruitment, Professional Staff hiring and recruitment, housing selection, etc. 14. Support the College’s mission, vision, and values, and contribute to the advancement of the College’s Strategic Plan. 145 Collaborate with other campus offices like Campus Safety, the Dyson Wellness Center, Student Involvement, Student Disability Services, Career Services, First Generation Programing, etc.
