About The Position

The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for the oversight and development of a residential community designed to support students as they continue their transition through college. The RLC fosters a supportive and educational living environment that promotes student engagement, belonging, and academic success. This role collaborates closely with student leaders, campus partners, and professional staff to support students' personal and community development in alignment with the mission and values of Newberry College. This position is a 12-month, live-in position; Two-bedroom apartment, utilities and internet included. On-call responsibilities required during the week and on holidays on a rotating basis. This is a salaried position, although this position requires approximately 37.5 hours per week, the nature of the position, at times, necessitates unpredictable workweeks including nights and weekends. Some weeks require more than 40 hours. This position requires evening and weekend hours. The nature of this position requires that the RLC lives on campus in a furnished, assigned house/apartment located within or near the area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Experience in residence life, student affairs, or related fields.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.
  • Crisis management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Understanding of developmental needs and challenges specific to second-year college students.
  • bachelor's degree required.

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive community for students, supporting their continued development and connection to campus.
  • Plan and implement intentional programs and initiatives that encourage student involvement, leadership, and academic persistence.
  • Maintain a level of community adherence to college policies.
  • Mediate roommate and community conflicts and proactively address student concerns.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist in the administration of residence hall operations, including room assignments and maintenance requests.
  • Maintain accurate records related to incidents, programs, and student conduct. Including assisting in certain conduct processes and cases.
  • Manage budgets for programming and hall activities.
  • Serve as a resource for students regarding academic, personal, and social issues.
  • Collaborate with counseling services and the Center for Student Success to support student well-being.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students to foster trust and engagement.
  • Enforce college policies and procedures related to residence life and college policies.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the living environment and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare reports on residence life activities and student engagement for college administration.
