About The Position

The Residence Hall Director position at Texas State University is a full-time, live-in role that plays a crucial part in managing the daily operations of one or more residential buildings. The primary responsibility of the Residence Hall Director (RD) is to foster a strong community among residents, support the staff they supervise, and create meaningful opportunities for students to connect with the campus through intentional interactions. The RD is expected to engage actively with students, staff, and the broader university community to promote student success and retention. This role requires a proactive approach to community engagement, crisis management, and student support, ensuring that all residents feel a sense of belonging and are connected to the institution. In addition to community building, the RD will oversee the supervision of Resident Assistants and desk assistants, manage staff meetings, and participate in the selection and training of staff members. The RD will also be responsible for executing community development initiatives, assessing student engagement activities, and working closely with Living-Learning communities. The position requires the RD to be a member of the departmental on-call rotation, addressing behavioral concerns and providing support to students in crisis. Furthermore, the RD will assist with building management tasks, including budget management, occupancy management, and maintaining essential office records. The Residence Hall Director will report directly to an Assistant Director of Residential Experience and must be able to physically access all areas of their assigned residential building and other campus areas as needed. The role demands a commitment to the mission and goals of the department, division, and institution, with an emphasis on creating a positive living environment for all residents.
