About The Position

The Residence Hall Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a residence hall, facilitating student development, and ensuring a positive living and learning environment. Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and previous work experience in a college or university setting are required.
  • A master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, or Leadership is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and provides guidance for student staff.
  • Oversees implementation of building-wide programming initiatives and community development.
  • Coordinates departmental initiatives including Residence Hall Association and programming initiatives.
  • Oversees administrative tasks including building opening and closing, budget management, and report submission.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation and attends regular meetings within the Department and campus community.
  • Conducts weekly/monthly meetings with student staff and attends staff developments, workshops, and conferences as directed.
  • Coordinates timesheets and payroll materials for student staff and staffing of the 24-hour information desk.
  • Assists with developing/implementing student staff training and development.
  • Addresses minor policy violations and supports/enforces college policies.
  • Assists residents in their adjustment to college and group living by serving as a resource/referral in academic, social, and personal counseling.
  • Serves on special projects, events, and planning committees and monitors/enhances the quality of Student Staff programs.
  • Positively interacts with all members of the campus community and communicates effectively in oral and written form.
  • Monitors phone and email, responding to or forwarding concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains an up-to-date schedule and calendar on Microsoft Outlook and distributes information to staff and residents.
  • Contacts appropriate staff members during student/building related emergencies or issues and maintains confidentiality of all student information.
  • Attends training workshops regarding possible student concerns and assists residents in their adjustment to college.
  • Refers students to the Department of Counseling and Substance Abuse Services as necessary and assists with conflict management between residents.
  • Works with maintenance/custodial staff and conducts Health and Safety Inspections once per semester.
  • Attends weekly meetings with facilities staff and conducts daily building walk-throughs.
  • Attends training on crisis management protocols and directly responds to and assesses crisis situations.
