About The Position

The Resettlement Specialist is responsible for guiding newly arrived refugees through the initial resettlement period of 90 days, which starts with airport pickup, focuses on creating stability, and ends with actively providing appropriate services, enrollments, and referrals. This role ensures families feel welcome, are informed of what to expect about life in the U.S., and are connected to critical services in the Rochester area. This position operates within grant-funded programs, requiring specific services to be provided within set timeframes and with appropriate documentation of all activities through case management. This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until 6/30/2026 and contingent upon funding extension. This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week. 100% in Office.

  • Strong command of computer operations, many types of software (especially Microsoft Office), and other technologies

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with refugees highly desirable
  • Minimum of bachelor's degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate new refugee arrivals at the airport and assist adjustment to new home
  • Ensure provision of timely and appropriate services to newly arriving refugee families during first 90 days post-arrival in accordance with program guidelines
  • Assist refugee participants in accessing appropriate services including but not limited to public assistance, education, health care, language classes, and employment services
  • Conduct required home visits and assessments with refugee families
  • Provide initial and on-going orientations to life in the United States, including but not limited to health, safety, budgeting and paying bills
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment with each refugee, develop individual service plans, and facilitate connections to appropriate services
  • Encourage participants to work towards self-sufficiency and early employment
  • Maintain timely and accurate client files, case notes, and reporting records
  • Request checks from the finance department and distribute funds to clients according to program guidelines
  • Operate as a cultural broker between volunteers, church groups, service providers and refugees
  • Collaborate with volunteers and Volunteer Services staff to help meet the goals of the client’s service plan
  • Actively participate in department meetings, staff development opportunities, program trainings, community activities, and organizational events
  • Other duties as assigned
