About The Position

The Reservoir Geoscience Advisor at Murphy Oil Corporation is a senior-level role responsible for providing expert geological and geophysical support across multiple projects, particularly in deepwater fields. This position involves mentoring junior staff, conducting detailed interpretations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize development plans while managing risks. The advisor will also evaluate new technologies and contribute to the company's strategic objectives, ensuring technical consistency and competency within the subsurface teams.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Geology or Geophysics.
  • Minimum 20 years' experience in Geology/Geophysics oil and gas exploration, with at least 5 years' experience in deepwater fields and 5 years' experience in exploration.
  • 15 years of experience in field development studies and uncertainty analyses.
  • Demonstrated experience with Petrel, Kingdom, Paleoscan, RoseRA, Power BI or similar software packages.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment, placing team needs ahead of individual needs.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in direct Offshore Geoscience experience, with GOM deepwater experience preferred.
  • Experience constructing static geomodels, interpreting pre-stack data, AVO analysis, time-lapse/4D seismic, and seismic inversion.
  • Experience with seismic reprocessing, basin modeling, volumetrics, and petroleum systems analyses/risking.
  • Risk assessment utilizing statistical software such as RoseRA is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed geological and geophysical interpretations and build fit for purpose geomodels that support development, new venture, and exploration activities.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to create development plans for deepwater fields that incorporate risks and uncertainties in the development decisions.
  • Play a critical role in technical evaluation of investment opportunities, both internal and new ventures, as an active participant in technical discipline and cross-functional peer reviews.
  • Keep up to date on industry best practices and emerging technologies, making recommendations on how to improve business processes and technology implementation.
  • Effectively tailor and deliver messages to target audiences, acknowledging contributions of others when communicating results to management and partners.
  • Support larger organizational objectives and metrics, translating how those objectives are supported at a technical level to others within Subsurface.
  • Value quality data and transparency, supporting initiatives to improve data storage, integration, access, and analysis.
  • Lead by example in supporting Murphy's Mission, Vision, and Values, exhibiting effective conflict resolution skills and professional behavior.
  • Develop organizational talent that consistently delivers strong technical and economical projects, employing innovative techniques and processes.
  • Provide direction on training classes and experiences needed to improve the technical expertise of staff.
