THE OPPORTUNITY A Hudson Police Reserve Officer performs routine, entry-level professional law enforcement work in the field to supplement the Patrol and Administrative Divisions of the Hudson Police Department. Per Colorado Revised Statute §16-2.5-110 1 (b) - "Reserve officer" means a person authorized by a city, city and county, town, county, or state institution of higher education within this state to act as a reserve police officer, reserve deputy sheriff, or reserve town marshal for certain specific and limited periods while the person is authorized to be on duty and acting at the express direction or under the direct supervision of a fully P.O.S.T.- certified peace officer pursuant to section 16-2.5-103, 16-2.5-105, 16-2.5-108, or 16-2.5-120. A reserve officer is a peace officer while engaged in the performance of his or her duties whose authority shall be limited to the authority granted by his or her authorizing agency. Reserve Officers are commissioned and work at the pleasure of the Chief of Police. Reserve Officers work under the close supervision of an officer, supervisor, or administrative superior. JOB SUMMARY Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Remain calm and respond appropriately to emergency and threatening situations; protect self and others in threatening situations; able to physically subdue and control unruly and resisting individuals. Maintain Officer proficiency standards in the use of firearms and other assigned equipment. Safely operate a Town vehicle in normal and emergency conditions. Perform law enforcement duties including: Administer first aid, as necessary. Assist with transporting arrestees. Fingerprint arrestees. Conduct specialized enforcement details for scheduled events. Respond to callouts for scene security, missing person searches, evidence searches, and other operations to assist patrol officers. Respond to routine ‘cold’ complaints and provide necessary services, within legal parameters, including basic investigation, crime scene processing, and report writing. As necessary, request assistance from higher level officers in other than routine law enforcement matters. Complete mandatory training.
