About The Position

The University of Minnesota is seeking a Researcher 3 to contribute to translational neuroscience research focused on understanding the biological processes underlying epilepsy development. This role involves a combination of research and laboratory support tasks, primarily working with rodent models and various biological techniques.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in a related scientific area (Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology, etc.) and 2 years of related experience or a combination of related education and experience to equal at least 6 years
  • 1.5 years (or more) of full-time lab experience, particularly in a 'wet lab' environment
  • Willingness to work in a team environment

  • B.S. in Neuroscience
  • 2-3 years of full-time lab experience, particularly in a 'wet lab' environment
  • Proficiency in stereotaxic procedures
  • 2 or more years working with animals
  • Strong knowledge of UMN ordering and administrative systems/processes

Responsibilities

  • Perform translational epilepsy studies, including behavioral and EEG experiments
  • Conduct histological experiments (histological and immunofluorescent staining)
  • Execute basic molecular biology experiments (PCR and in situ hybridization)
  • Carry out stereotaxic surgeries
  • Perform biological imaging, including confocal microscopy and multi-photon imaging
  • Analyze biological imaging data
  • Oversee lab supply ordering and track supply expenses
  • Ensure proper receipt and storage of lab supplies
  • Coordinate autoclaving and sterilization of lab tools
  • Maintain basic aspects of colony management, including documentation
  • Assist the PI with new hire onboarding and training
  • Support the PI with colony reports and internal document submissions
