About The Position

The Beyer/Vieira/Briseno Lab within in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology, seeks a Research Technologist. In addition to lab work, there is also an opportunity to be involved with the Mushroom Research Center (MRC). At the MRC, you could gain hands-on experience in mushroom cultivation processes such as harvesting, spawning, and composting. With multiple ongoing projects at the center, there are plenty of opportunities to develop practical skills and contribute to research efforts. This position is funded for 1 year(s); continuation past 1 year(s) will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree
No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education.

Responsibilities

Washing dishes, sterilizing and disposing of laboratory waste, making media, using sterile techniques to grow bacteria, washing plant pots, among other tasks to support the research of the laboratory.
Other duties may include the extraction of viral nucleic acids from mushroom samples, performing reverse transcription reactions, and running PCR and qPCR assays.
Perform library preparation of high-quality and high-molecular-weight for sequencing of viral RNA and fungal RNA or DNA for Oxford Nanopore sequencing.
