About The Position

The Laboratory of Marina Feric in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Research Technologist - Life Sciences (Advanced Professional)/ Lab Manager. The Feric lab takes an interdisciplinary approach to uncover the biomolecular driving forces underlying the organization of the cell in the context of human health and age-related diseases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) plus 7 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in protein purification, cell culture, and genetic engineering in addition to basic molecular/cell biology techniques.
  • Experience training undergraduates, graduates, and postdocs.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the ordering, maintaining appropriate inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab.
  • Develop, design and conduct one or more small or moderately complex research projects or experiments in line with plan, reviews progress and evaluates results.
  • Train users in equipment operation and research techniques, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations and outcomes.
  • Author/co-author on papers, proposals, presentations and reports.
  • Participate in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions.
  • Identify problems and related technical issues leading to long-term solutions by identifying technical approaches for problem solving.
  • Mentor and supervise assigned trainees in the development of technical scientific skills.
  • May be responsible for operation of a specialized research area or laboratory.
