Location Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center Job Description Job Summary: This position offers a great opportunity to participate in very exciting research on neural development and neurodegeneration, which will lead to publications in the near future.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • One to two years laboratory experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, works independently and under supervision, and function as a research team member.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Ideally previous lab experience in molecular biology (DNA, RNA, PCR and Western) and R programing.
  • Mouse work experience is strongly preferred.
  • The candidate will have skilled hands, be detail oriented and well organized.
  • Candidates interested in applying to medical school or graduate school in 1-2 years are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Performs research with molecular and cell biological techniques including PCR, DNA and RNA extraction, immunostaining, Western-blotting, cell culture, and sequencing data analysis using R
  • Animal experiment (Animal handling (newborn mice and rats), feeding pups via an oro-gastric tube, observation of the pups, Collection of intestinal tissue).
  • Lab management: managing mouse colonies, ordering supplies and managing mouse and safety protocols.
  • Routine, general lab work (Solutions preparation, animal formula preparation, autoclaving lab ware and sterilizing instruments, keeping bench clean, cleaning of objects used for experiments and disposal of waste
  • Data collection, timely sample processing and storage.
  • Willing to learn and improve/develop techniques.
