Brandeis University is delighted to announce a position opportunity to join the Garrity Lab as a Research Technician. You will primarily carry out molecular and genetic studies in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogastser and the mosquito Aedes aegypti and oversee the maintenance of laboratory stocks of insects. You will also help with the maintenance of laboratory supplies for a lab of ~ 7 PhD student/post-doctoral researchers. Our laboratory ( www.garritylab.com ) studies how insects sense the world, focusing on how they detect temperature and humidity. One of the main animals we study, vector mosquitoes, use these senses to find human hosts to bite and to find appropriate sites to lay their eggs, making the study of these sensory modalities important for both the basic science insights obtained and human health. We use a combination of molecular biology, genetics, physiology and behavior in our studies. The position is particularly well-suited for individuals looking for ≥ 2 years of full-time laboratory experience prior to pursuing graduate or professional school, and technicians in the Garrity lab commonly contribute to research publications. At Brandeis, we offer a competitive benefits and compensation package which includes medical, dental and life insurances. If you are looking to advance your career through educational opportunities, Brandeis offers tuition assistance for employees, dependents and spouses. Our 403b retirement savings plan includes a generous match. The salary range for the position is $39,600 - $49,500 (paid hourly).
