About The Position

A Research Technician position is available in a cardiovascular hemodynamics laboratory conducting minimally invasive large-animal (swine) studies. The selected candidate will support translational research focused on ischemia and reperfusion injury using clinically relevant interventional techniques and hemodynamic monitoring systems. Under the supervision of senior laboratory staff and investigators, the technician will assist with animal preparation, procedural support, tissue collection, and data acquisition. This is a time-limited, entry-level, full-time position designed for individuals seeking hands-on experience in cardiovascular research within an academic setting. WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time position, 40 hours per week. Work hours may vary based on research study schedules. Extended procedural days may occur; however, total weekly hours will align with institutional guidelines. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in laboratory, procedural, and animal research environments. Position requires standing for extended periods during procedures and interaction with large animals using team-based handling techniques. Ability to lift and move equipment with assistance is required. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Exposure to animal allergens, biological tissues, anesthetic agents, and clinical equipment may occur. COMPENSATION: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position classification and final pay band subject to determination under University of South Florida guidelines.

Requirements

  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of laboratory or research experience.
  • College coursework in a natural or physical science may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of swine for minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures
  • Support ischemia and reperfusion studies, including pre-procedural setup, intra-procedural assistance, and post-procedural activities
  • Assist with anesthesia setup, monitoring, and recovery under supervision
  • Set up, operate (with training), maintain, and clean laboratory and clinical-grade research equipment
  • Assist with tissue collection, processing, labeling, documentation, and storage in accordance with approved protocols
  • Maintain accurate experimental records, data logs, and inventory documentation
  • Ensure compliance with IACUC-approved protocols, biosafety requirements, and institutional policies
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and perform other research-related duties as assigned
