About The Position

The Research Technician in Infectious Diseases at Boston Medical Center plays a crucial role in providing research, laboratory, and safety support. This position involves utilizing a solid foundation in basic laboratory techniques, participating in the planning and execution of experiments, and assisting in the evaluation and interpretation of results. The technician will coordinate various research activities, manage laboratory resources, and ensure compliance with safety protocols while contributing to groundbreaking research projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • College level courses in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and/or laboratory sciences are also required.
  • One year experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to learn and integrate procedures and knowledge relating to lab protocols and techniques under supervision.
  • Good computer skills, including data entry and use of spreadsheet and/or database.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks as dictated by the research schedule.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, such as pipetting and serial dilutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with statistical software for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as Western blotting and enzymatic assays.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate research activities in the laboratory including managing mouse colony and maintaining tissue culture.
  • Perform studies with human tissues, small animals (rodents), and possibly cultured cells.
  • Set up and perform routine Western blot analysis and enzymatic, spectrophotometric, fluorometric, and signaling assays and interpret results.
  • Assist with the setup, performance, and interpretation of routine analysis.
  • Draft interpretation and summarization of data, analyze data using statistical analysis software, and create presentable graphs and tables.
  • Present weekly written reports and answer questions regarding the performance of experiments and the integrity of the data.
  • Ensure proper handling, storing, and freezing of specimens and supplies, and dispose of waste according to policy.
  • Maintain appropriate laboratory inventory and order related supplies as needed.
  • Perform research literature searches as needed.
  • Adapt to changes in departmental needs, including offering assistance to other team members and adjusting assignments.
