This Tech III position will be expected to provide technical assistance to support the lab’s overarching aim of investigating soft tissue fibrosis, with duties as follows. They will be responsible for oversight of the laboratory’s research rodent colony, including breeding, genotyping, and maintaining colony inventory records to a high standard. They will also participate in recovery surgery in rodents, followed by isolation of rodent tissues to conduct histological and/or biomechanical analyses. Expectations also include organization and maintenance of lab equipment, training new personnel in relevant techniques, and keeping a detailed lab notebook of experimental details and data analysis/interpretation. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 5 years of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of a large mouse colony with multiple transgenic strains (50-100 cages), including breeding, genotyping, and keeping detailed electronic inventory records of the mouse strains
  • Perform aseptic rodent recovery surgeries in support of ongoing research projects
  • Dissect and isolate rodent tissues for histological analyses, including multiplex immunofluorescent staining, imaging using a slidescanner and quantitative analysis with appropriate software in collaboration with the Histology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Imaging (HBMI) Core in the CMSR
  • Isolate rodent tissues for biomechanical testing in collaboration with the Biomechanics and Multimodal Tissue Imaging (BMTI) Core in the CMSR
  • Perform rodent and human tissue lysis for conducting molecular biology experiments (e.g. qPCR, Western blotting)
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook of protocols and experimental data, conduct routine data analysis and interpretation.
  • Other duties as assigned, e.g. assisting other lab members as needed and maintaining organization of lab and equipment
