About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Lab Technician to provide direct research support in the Kim laboratory. The position involves performing non-routine laboratory assignments that require some complexity and variety, under the guidance of Dr. Kim. The Lab Technician will be responsible for planning and executing a variety of moderately complex laboratory tests, analyses, and observations, utilizing techniques of cellular immunology, including flow cytometry and microscopy. This role also includes data extraction and analysis, quality control tracking, and preparation of presentation materials for seminars and publications.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree in a biological science or a related field preferred.
• 5 years’ experience with performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities required.
• Experience with flow cytometry and microscope preferred.
• Basic lab techniques required.

Responsibilities

• Plans and performs a variety of moderately complex laboratory tests, analyses, and observations.
• Applies techniques of cellular immunology to evaluate interdisciplinary clinical studies and trials.
• Extracts and analyzes experimental data; analyzes flow cytometry data using Flowjo and other proprietary software.
• Assesses the importance of findings in relation to the general research program.
• Operates computer and/or peripheral equipment.
• Maintains quality control tracking of methods and reagent performance.
• Performs QC testing and maintenance of computerized inventory and databases.
• Prepares presentation materials for seminar presentations, publications, and preliminary data for grant submissions.
• Presents research results at lab meetings and assists in writing papers for publication.
• Assists in the management of the laboratory's reagent inventory.
• Keeps research supplies stocked.
• Other duties as assigned.
