The Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
  • Ability to exert heavy force.
  • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
  • All positions are security-sensitive. Responsibilities

  • Collects samples and measurement data from experiments.
  • Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
  • Collects and compiles data.
  • Computes quantitates and extends projections.
  • Assembles and operates technical equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.
  • Mark and establish demonstration/experimental plots
  • Collect pre- and post-plant soil samples
  • Collect and process crop samples (biomass and yield)
  • Apply chemicals including fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc.
  • Collect crop canopy data using crop sensors
  • Able to use Microsoft word for report writing
  • Use Microsoft excel for entering field data
  • Perform basic statistical analysis such means using any software
  • Maintain database of weather, soil, and crop data
  • Shipping and handling of samples
  • Maintain inventory of research equipment and supplies
  • Process soil samples; sort, dry, grind, etc.
  • Process crop samples; dry grain or biomass samples, grind samples for lab analysis
  • Perform simple lab tests on soil samples including pH, electrical conductivity, bulk density, water content, etc.
