Our lab is focused on genomic analysis of tumors to develop biomarkers for early diagnosis and novel therapeutic targets. Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is one of the most common inherited tumor predisposition syndromes, affecting 1:2500 individuals worldwide. Individuals with NF1 are prone to the development of central and peripheral nervous system malignancies, including an aggressive type of sarcoma called a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNSTs). Projects in the lab will focus on biomarker development for early cancer detection and therapeutic targeting in MPNST. There is extensive use of both animal mouse models of disease and live human tissues. There is also retrospective clinical data analysis. The primary responsibility of the successful applicant will be to assist in the performance and interpretation. Assists with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.
