GENERAL PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to support an investigative research team at Cognitive Neurophysiology Lab. The individual will maintain transgenic colony of disease models, contributing on identifying translational biomarkers and understanding of basic mechanisms of rare neurodevelopment disease. The individual will perform a variety of moderately complex laboratory duties and experiments. Position requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Initially, this individual will perform assignments working with regular supervision from the lab supervisor or the designee and over time will develop independence in planning and performing experiments. The lab fosters, a collaborative environment and continuing educational development, which is highly valued in applicants.

Requirements

  • High school diploma. Required
  • College or Associate’s degree in appropriate discipline. Preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required
  • 1 year experience performing basic sampling, monitoring, or research activities, compiling and collecting data, and preparing reports. Preferred

  • Highly motivated, ability to multitask, good organizational abilities, detail oriented and ability to work well as part of a team. Preferred
  • Experience in mouse handling. Preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Handle mouse colonies including breeding, separation, genotyping, maintain mouse database/inventories and ensure compliance with IACUC policies.
  • Communicate with the animal resource department and UCAR on animal colony matters and s erve as an emergency contact for animal care staff.
  • Operate, maintain and use the lab equipment and the resources of the laboratory in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Assist in-vivo aseptic animal surgeries, behavior assessments, electrophysiology recording and maintains accurate records.
  • Orders supplies, overall maintain the order and cleanliness of the lab.
  • Helps to maintain documentation of Lab Safety in compliance with university policy requirements.
  • Keep inventory of chemicals on Chematix.
  • Ensure that approved procedures for proper disposal of all hazardous wastes are followed.
  • Keeps abreast of the field of neuroscience by reading journal articles, attending laboratory meetings, and attending relevant University seminars.
  • Maintains detailed lab journal.
  • Records and calculates results.
  • Presents data in prescribed formats.
  • Uses input from PI and lab members to trouble shoot experiments and equipment malfunctions.
  • Performs general laboratory duties such as preparing reagents and re-stocking supplies and inventory maintenance.
  • Helps to ensure laboratory compliance for biosafety, EHS and fire inspections.
  • Other projects and job duties as assigned.
