About The Position

We are looking for someone that is interested in NIH-funded research on understanding how the immune system interacts with gut bacteria and parasites, a process important for a healthy gut. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in biomedical research but prior experience is not required. This position will be 95% devoted to an independent research project with the goal of generating data for publication in peer-reviewed journals. This could be an opportunity to acquire skills for those interested in advancing a career in academic research or medicine. Experiments will include animal studies, sterile cell culture techniques, PCR, restriction digest, plasmid purification, gel electrophoresis, and maintaining a detailed lab notebook containing research data. Assists with laboratory duties in a research setting; performs routine tests with direction from the supervisor, manager or higher-level technician.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains files on research and assists with data entry.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
