About The Position

The Research Technician will be responsible for performing and supporting research projects focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic physiology and dysfunction in disease, laboratory animal colony management, day-to-day lab maintenance and assisting lab personnel as directed by the Principal Investigator. The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in a basic science laboratory. Education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Experience in general lab maintenance and buffer making, working with rodent models, tissue collection and electrophysiology

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in a basic science laboratory.
  • Experience with handling laboratory animals, muscle dissections and intracellular recordings of synaptic neurotransmitter release and kinetics.
  • Experienced in pCLAMP software analysis of intracellular recordings.
  • Communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain rodent colonies and animal care, general lab maintenance, and assist researchers in the lab with their research efforts.
  • Perform and support experiments involving tissue collection, live imaging and recordings.
  • Purchase supplies/materials through Workday.
  • Participate in regular communication with the PI via lab meetings and personal meetings.
  • Generate data and analyze for the preparation of published papers.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of rodent care, health assessments, experimental procedures, and environmental conditions. Ensure records are up to date and comply with laboratory and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.
